Eggert

EGGERT

Lillian Eggert is my wife’s grandmother.

Along with the Menzel Family line, the Eggert family line has proven difficult to trace, though recently I’ve had major breakthroughs.  Some of the same issues exist:  recent immigration from Germany; my lack of familiarity with the German language, along with my lack of experience and skills in navigating German records.

Lillian Eggert, born in 1891 in New Haven, Connecticut, is my wife’s grandmother.  She married Richard Robert Max Menzel in 1918, in New Haven, Connecticut.  They had two children, Mildred and Richard…Richard is my wife’s father.

Lillian’s mother was Hedwig (“Hattie”) Eggert and she was first married to Gustav Eggert, the father of all Hattie’s children.  I have recently discovered that Hedwig’s given birth name was Johanna Lina Hedwig Alte.  Knowing that has enable me to learn much more about her.  Gustav Eggert died in 1894.  Hattie remarried, to Herman Behn.

Hattie died suddenly and unexpectedly on October 14, 1917, and is buried in New Haven.
